Hmm... I see that this one was made into a movie, too: "The Longest Ride" (2015). With Alan Alda! Well, I missed that completely. I guess I'm getting tired of Netflix because I've been choosing to read more often than usual on these long winter days. "Lament for a Father" (2021) by Marvin Olasky was a freebie that came in the mail since I'm a subscriber to WORLD magazine. It seems that I identify more with Eli Olasky (Marvin's father) than I do with the author, specifically in the tankhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06395079647940106635noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5420782.post-58035012722935624922021-12-27T18:42:00.004-06:002021-12-27T18:55:53.254-06:00Yeow... It has certainly been awhile since I've checked in here. I won't ask if you've missed me... So this first book, Perfectly Yourself: Discovering God's Dream for You, by Matthew Kelly, wasn't really my cup of tea. I'm definitely no closer to determining His dream for me. I guess I got the book free from church, so that had to be several years ago. I guess that I got it from Nancy. I can't remember. It's been a long time since I've seen her or her dogs. You know, usually I am on dog feeding duty every month or so when she goes on her trips, but the COVID-19 has left her home-bound since March. "Hepatitis C - Never Give Up Hope" (2016) was written by Cindy Bowles from Era, Texas. When I was a youngster in 4-H, we used to have playdays at her arena. The book tells the story of her husband Harold's battle with Hepatitis C including two liver transplants. It's not the easiest reference book to read, and I had already been trimming my own horses hooves for at least a year when I started reading it, so the book mostly confirmed things that I already knew. It is a pretty short book, but the anecdotes are effective. Apparently there is a book called "The 5 Love Languages for Singles", so probably I should have read that one, but I found this at Melissa's house. I can't remember, but I really enjoyed it. I thought the whole time that I was reading the work of a black woman, but when I got to the back flap, I realized that the author was a white man. I'm sure he won't take offense at that. The book was good no matter what the race/gender of the author.

I think that Kim gave it to me. I passed it on to Grandma, but she probably needs something with larger print. This review is not up to my normal standards. Not that the standards of the book were low - I thought it was a very interesting and well-written book. I see myself as a realist, and that just means that I admit that I notice race in others (and in myself), and I know that some assumptions can be made based on race. Racism implies that those assumptions based on race are all negative. Some of my assumptions are negative, some of them are positive. The language seems like something from the younger generation, so I'm thinking that Stephen King's name is just on the cover to make folks pick it up. And since I haven't actually read a Stephen King novel before, I can't say how this one compares to any others. The main premise was protecting the wolves from hunters. I don't care about wolves. I don't care about hunters, either, so I couldn't really take a side. The writing was fine, and the story would probably make a good movie, but it was fairly predictable.

It was written by Bobbi Smith and published in 2010. I guess it was a pretty good story. That's not such a bad thing. It has to be better for my mind than watching zombies get killed in 5 million different ways. About this book... I went through both of these books fairly quickly, so I will review them together. Although one was written in 2009 (Montana Creeds: Logan by Linda Lael Miller) and the other in 1993 (Broomstick Cowboy by Kathleen Eagle), they both tell pretty much the same story. How I'm finding any time to read is a bit of a mystery, what with all the rodeo stuff I've got going on. Nancy passed this book on to me. "Bright Lights, Big Ass: A Self-Indulgent, Surly Ex-Sorority girl's guide to Why It Often Sucks in the City, or Who Are These Idiots and Why Do They All Live Next Door to Me?" by Jen Lancaster is, in her own words on the cover, "yet ANOTHER memoir".
