I tried. I really did. But I could not finish the book. I made it to page 406 of 746 a few months ago, and I haven't been able to pick it up again. Sure, it's not really the kind of book that is meant to be read page-by-page, but neither is a dictionary, and I'm pretty sure I'd have better luck with that. The first few pages or chapters talk about godly things and doctrine, but after that, it is all about the politics of the United Methodist Church - who answers to who, who's responsible for what, how much do we pay them. "The Book of Discipline, 2004" is my boss's book, and it's not at all what I was expecting. I guess I was expecting something more like the Catechism of the Catholic Church. I guess Methodism is all about...methods. I wish I could have finished it, but there's just been nothing about Jesus in hundreds of pages...not even any Bible verses to point out why they have the hierarchy and methods that they do. Oh, I'm not shocked; I've always know the Methodist folks are a little odd, but I'm more sad than I was. I'm sorry this is only a half-way review, but it's all I've got.
