"Whispers from the Maple on the Hill: Life During the Depression and World War II in Southeast Missouri" is an autobiography by Harvey D. Shell and was published in 2009. The book came from my office - can't tell you why it was there. It was an alright book. It got better a little later on when he was telling his own stories instead of ones about his family history. I thought an interesting part was about the rationing that happened during the war, how people couldn't get new cars, and then how his uncle and his father started Ford dealerships after the war ended. It came to my memory that our little Ford dealership in town was also started in the late 1940s. Putting the pieces together in my small brain, I realized that Klement Ford of Muenster (originally Endres Motor Co.) probably had very similar beginnings in 1946 as Bud Shell Ford did. Endres Motor was started by Urban Endres who is Prairie's great-uncle. Prairie rode in the parade with me Saturday. Klement Ford, that's where my dad works, you know. I just went there the other day to get my inspection sticker done. Isn't history fun?

Don't forget that 65 years ago my dad went to work there. On page 2 of the January 13, 2012 edition of The Muenster Enterprise, in the "Days Gone By......65 Years Ago, Jan. 10, 1947", it says, "Henry Yosten now employed at Urban Endres' garage in the mechanical department." He was 19 years old at the time. Yup, history is fun!
